Abstract
Image-guided percutaneous tumor ablation has become a crucial minimally invasive alternative to surgical resection, with high rates of success dependent on precision in probe placement and energy delivery. A significant challenge in this procedure is respiratory-induced organ movement, notably in the liver, lungs, and kidneys, decreasing procedural accuracy and leading to extended procedure time and elevated radiation exposure. High-frequency jet ventilation (HFJV) addresses these issues by minimizing respiratory movement, providing a nearly static field that enhances procedural precision and efficiency. In this review, we discuss the use of HFJV in tumor ablation procedures, highlighting its potential advantages over conventional ventilation, such as reducing probe misplacement and radiation exposure. These advantages, plus its well-established safety profile, represent a promising advancement in resolving respiratory movement challenges. Through the synthesis of recent studies and clinical experiences, this review underscores HFJV's potential to revolutionize image-guided tumor ablation. Future research on standardizing protocols, optimizing HFJV settings, and implementation strategies is encouraged.
