Multidisciplinary Limb Salvage and Joint Preservation in Severe Chemical Burn of Foot and Ankle: A Case Report.
Abstract
[CASE PRESENTATION] A 27-year-old woman sustained a 6% total body surface area chemical burn after a golf cart accident, resulting in full-thickness injury to the left lower extremity (LE) with exposed talus and transected extensor/peroneal tendons. Management included serial debridement, an innervated latissimus dorsi free flap, extensor tendon primary repair with allograft reconstruction, posterior tibial tendon transfer, and allogenous cartilage transplantation. She achieved functional recovery.
[CONCLUSION] This case highlights the critical role of a multidisciplinary approach in complex LE salvage, where innovative microsurgical and musculoskeletal reconstruction can optimize outcomes.
