The changing scene in breast surgery in a plastic surgery unit (1966-94).
Abstract
A review of the increasing numbers and problems concerning breast surgery over almost 30 years is related. The current controversies and changing techniques are discussed. Breast reduction is confirmed to be a very useful operation, being a cosmetic as well as symptomatically beneficial procedure. It is seen to be a cause of a major increase in the unit's workload as its popularity increases. Various options for breast reconstruction after excisional surgery are discussed.
