Breast reduction for the older woman.
Abstract
Breast reduction surgeries are being performed more regularly in older women, ages 65 and older, although the procedure has historically been undertaken in younger patients. If careful assessment determines that the older woman is suitable for this surgery, breast reduction can be as successful and satisfying for her as in a younger woman. Preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care provided should be based upon individual needs, no matter what the age of the patient. The purpose of this paper is to focus on the breast reduction experience for the older woman.
