Comparison of breast augmentation incisions and common complications.

[UNLABELLED] The recent article by Stutman et al, regarding the comparison of breast augmentation incisions and complications was reviewed with emphasis on capsular contracture. In contrast to other articles in the literature, the authors did not find a difference in contracture rates between the inframammary, periareolar, and transaxillary incisions. The patient data used, however, did not include a key issue regarding contracture-the use of breast pocket irrigation, which has been shown to significantly reduce the incidence of contracture. The authors' conclusion that surgeons may proceed without worry that there is a difference in complication rates between incisions is contrary to mounting evidence.
