Body Roundness Index: An Alternative Metric for Plastic Surgery Risk Stratification.
Abstract
Meta-analyses suggest the body roundness index (BRI) yields better discriminatory power for predicting cardiovascular disease and metabolic syndrome than the body mass index (BMI). Given the role of plastic surgeons in the surgical management of obesity, massive weight loss, and their sequalae, we conducted a systematic review of the literature to search for surgical outcomes studies comparing BRI to BMI for surgical risk stratification. Our search yielded no studies meeting criteria. We offer suggestions for integrating the BRI into plastic surgery clinical research and clinical practice.
