Abstract
Nipple-areola reconstruction from nonspecialized tissues is presented as a worthwhile component of breast reconstruction. General principles are discussed, as are specific techniques for reconstruction of the areola and the nipple. The author's method is recommended as the most efficient use of local tissue for nipple reconstruction in the prosthetic breast, where skin and fat are both in short supply.
