Abstract

Seven previously undescribed highly oxidized labdane lactones [pallamoids A-G (1-7)], featuring five 6/6/5/5 and two 6/6/5 cyclic systems, and six known compounds (8-13) were isolated from the Chinese liverwort Pallavicinia ambigua. Their structures were determined by high-resolution mass spectrometry, nuclear magnetic resonance, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Biologically, compounds 1-5 and 8 showed selective inhibitory activity against the human prostate cancer (PC-3) cell line with half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC) values of 5.7-10.1 μM via an apoptotic pathway.
