Controversies in otoplasty.

In the last 30 years many surgeons, plastic as well as ENT surgeons, have been increasingly concerned with the correction of protruding ears. There are many controversial points of view regarding the preferable surgical approach. Each surgeon is claiming to find the best solution to this specific issue. To find an acceptable solution, various techniques tackling all the components of the deformity are screened. My preferred technique for the reconstruction of prominent ears, using the best of several procedures is presented: club-excision of the posterior skin, anterior scratching of the faculty antihelix, excision of part of the cartilage of the concha, repositioning of the tail of the helix, posterior mattress sutures and resetting of the postauricular muscle. Will there ever be new ideas?
