With the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, AI has demonstrated potential in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of gastric cancer. This article discussed the current applications, challenges, and future trends of AI in gastric cancer surgery. The applications of AI in gastric cancer surgery mainly concentrated in six aspects: preoperative imaging assessment, intraoperative real-time navigation, surgical step recognition, surgical skill evaluation, postoperative prediction and judgment, and perioperative education. Despite the challenges, with progress in digital infrastructure, clinical research evidence, law and regulations, AI holds promise as a core driving force in the surgical treatment of gastric cancer, propelling gastric cancer therapy into a new era of intelligence.
