Abstract

Bangour has been the home of the Lothian Regional Plastic Surgery Service since 1941. It was originally constructed to be part of the emergency medical service hospitals during the Second World War. The lifetime of the Plastic Surgery Unit in Bangour finished in February 1992 and with it the end of just over 50 years of history. A review of some of the past gives an appropriate historical picture of the unit as well as of the changes in plastic surgery.
